Skiing 2012

Some excellent snow late season saw us taking an unexpected trip down to the mountain for 4 days over the school holidays. The first afternoon was overcast but no wind, and the snow was soft and lovely. The second day was clear skies, no wind and amazingly no queues (the longest we waited over the whole trip was less than 5 mins). We children learned the first steps in finding good spring snow (aspect of slope, etc.) and we had some great skiing. Monday was a chalet day, with gale force winds and rain. Then on Tuesday morning we were going to drive home early but thought we'd have a quick ski at Whakapapa. We parked half-way up the mountain (at the chateau) in heavy snowfall, got the shuttle up, and got first turns in 4" powder in Happy Valley! Then the sun came out and we spent the rest of the day skiing top to bottom, and didn't leave until pretty much the last lift!

The video is the Erica skiing show, as the others were always too far away to see...
